Art Room

Washington-Hoyt now has a dedicated Art Room! WHAM (the after-school art program) and In Touch with Art (volunteer-provided art in the classroom) have combined efforts and supplies to create a room especially for art. The room is in the southeast corner of the basement where Mrs. Eichner’s class used to be. It is roomy, warm for better drying of projects and has lots of storage.

The room affords WHAM a home for both supplies and instruction and can be used by teachers or volunteers during the day. With its exhaust fan, large, tall tables, drying racks, easy-clean floor and smocks for an entire class, the room is a perfect place to work on a project that may be too messy for the classroom.

There is currently no sink in the art room, but we’re working on getting one installed. In the meantime, we have created a clean-up cart that will allow you to wheel in a tub of warm soapy water from the mop sink next door.

If you’d like to use the room or its supplies, just sign up for a time slot using the schedule posted on the door and contact Paul or Sara for more helpful information.

Unneeded Art Supplies at Home?

Our goal is to make the new art room a fully stocked, fully accessible teaching area that will be shared by all teachers and volunteers. We are currently taking inventory of art supplies and working with the PTA to order more.  In the interim, if you have any extra art supplies at home, the Art Room would love your donations.
